Site Provisions

Site Provisions

The following provisions are normally required for the installation of a RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS system. For any special requirements please consult with us or the installer.

Site Facilities: The following facilities will be required supplied free of charge by others.

A) Storage facilities for materials. (This can comprise the areas to be laid). B) Clear working areas with floor swept clean of all debris. C) Adequate potable water supply within 25 metres of working area. D) 110 Volt power supply for tools and plant. E) Adequate lighting particularly for winter working. F) When installation includes an insulation layer the area to be laid must be weather tight. G) For contracts above ground floor level a suitable lifting facility must be provided. H) Water and fuel for testing. I) Shared welfare facilities.

Site Preparation: Prior to installing a RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS system it will be necessary for the following checks to be made by the Main Contractor or others.

1) The level of the floor slab must be checked to ensure that the depth required for the RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS installation can be accommodated. Any remedial work must be completed prior to work commencing. 2) The slab must be flat and even with all high spots removed and suitable to receive flat sheet insulation. For concrete slabs this will normally require a fine tamp finish. 3) For installations using the RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS pre moulded baseplates the floor or wall must be smooth and even. For concrete slabs this will normally require a float finish. 4) For installation of the edge insulation the bottom edge of the walls must be flat and even.

The above site requirements are those normally required for standard types of installations.

Consultation should take place with the installer for any special installations to determine any other special provisions that may be required.

Special provisions will apply if the floor screeding forms an integral part of the works and the relevant data sheet should be studied.

Installation

The following procedures form a normal RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS floor installation. For other types of special installations please consult with us or the installer.

Insulation Layer: Edge insulation is fitted around all walls and columns such that the floor is fully isolated. The edge insulation will normally terminate above the finished floor level and should be cut off by following trades after the floor is laid. Edge insulation should also be fitted at the end of each joist run between each joist, if a pugging infill is to be used as per floor detail 10.

The layer of CFC free insulation as specified is laid over the entire floor with close butted joints. Sheet size will vary dependent on the type of building and the type of insulation and may comprise square edge or tongue and groove edges. When being used in a joisted/battened system the layer of rigid CFC free insulation shall be cut into strips to fit tightly between each joist and layed on top of the plywood decking. Foil faced compressible matting is also cut into strips to fit tightly between the joists on top of the rigid insulation.

Particular care should be taken when using a DPC above the slab which must be of the type which will not be aggressive to the insulation. This mainly concerns those which are solvent based and advice should be sought from the manufacturer's as to the suitability of it use with the type of insulation in use.

Polythene Vapour Barrier: A layer of polythene is laid over the insulation to prevent water penetration from the screed or concrete. This must comprise a min 250 mu (1000g) sheet lapped a min of 75mm. Please note this does not form a DPC which should be installed as normal below or above the slab.

Certain types of laminated insulation do not require application of polythene these include foil faced materials and similar products which rely on taped joints.

When used inconjunction with a Flowing Screed all joints in the polythene sheet are to be lapped by 100mm and all joints taped, to provide a tanked area.

Pipe Clipping: Dependent on the system being used a RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS cliprail or fabric mesh is then laid over the insulation and polythene. This is designed to hold the pipe pattern until the floor is laid.

Pipe Laying: Using the RADIANT FLOOR SOLUTIONS system of pipe laying the coils of pipe are laid as individual circuits each terminating at the manifold. Pipes are laid free of stress by pre-heating with a portable heater which circulates hot water continuously around the coil allowing any desired pattern to be laid on floor or wall.

Testing: On completion of all the circuits to a manifold a test pressure of 6 bar is applied for a min of 30 minutes. The circuits are normally left under pressure during floor laying and any damage should be reported immediately to the installer. Where there is a risk of freezing the coils should be drained and valves left open or anti-freeze added to the water.
